Powerpegz
Thinks They Have You Pegged!
There
are a number of aftermarket pegs that promise greater
control, less weight, and a trick look. However, MotoTech
Solutions offers a peg, called Powerpegz, with a unique
design that pivots with you as the bike moves under
you. That's right, the pegs actually pivot forward
and aft adjusting to the attitude of your bike allowing
your feet to stay firmly planted. I had a chance to
review this unique foot peg and here's our review.

How
does it work? Essentially, it's a two piece design
which consists of the peg platform and the peg mount.
The peg mount has a pivot bolt that allows you to
adjust the amount of force required to pivot the peg
platform. The result, a peg that pivots and is adjustable.
Does
it work? That was my second thought. My first thought
was, "Hey, that's a pretty cool idea!" Then
the obvious questions came quickly; will it work,
will if feel strange, and will there be noticeable
benefits?

First,
it does indeed function as advertised. The Powerpegz
came with a fairly light tension setting which allowed
them to pivot with very little force. I quickly tighten
the pivot tension bolt and found a tighter setting
more to my liking.
Second,
did it feel strange? Yes, it did feel strange at first.
I didn't realize how much "feedback" the
pegs provide while riding. The stock pegs provide
a fixed platform that delivers feedback about the
attitude of the bike. With the Powerpegz this feedback
is lost as the pegs pivot with you. This takes some
getting use to for sure. After riding exclusively
with the Powerpegs for two months, I brought a second
bike out to the track with stock pegs. I rode them
back to back to get a feel for the difference now
that I was use to the Powerpegz. Essentially, swapping
back to fixed pegs was as odd as originally switching
to the Powerpegz. That was a month ago and the Powerpegz
are still on my CRF450R.

The
Third, do they provide noticeable benefits? Yes! I
felt more control and traction on the pegs through
whoops and off jumps where the bike's attitude changes
frequently and quickly. I am yet to feel like I'm
on the edge of losing tracking or slipping of these
pegs. I also noticed better control and access to
the shifter and rear brake while maintaining excellent
tracking on the pegs. Because of this the teeth on
the peg don't have to be very aggressive. This along
with the peg moving with your boot should increase
the lift of the sole of your boot.

The Podium |
- Pegs
pivot keeping your boots firmly planted
- Well
designed and manufactured
- Excellent
value for a unique and rugged peg
- Instructions
are good and installation is quick and easy
|
So,
what's the downside? Really, there's only one and
that's the weight. The quality of construction is
excellent. These pegs are designed and built to take
a pounding. There's really nothing you can't throw
at them. The weight is a direct result of the pivot
design. To do what these pegs do well, they demand
a beefy pivot bolt and mounting hardware. As a result
they are heavier than stock and most aftermarket pegs.
However, the advantage of the pivot action overcomes
this overweight issue.
Installation
was a snap. The only challenge we had was the supplied
cotter pin was too large. We brought this to the attention
of the manufacturer and they had already discovered
this and fixed the problem. Other than this, the install
is quick and easy.
Conclusion
At
$99.99 this unique peg offers a great boot platform
with a twist ...literally. They provide great control
on the pegs regardless of the attitude of the bike.
In addition, they provide improved access to the shift
and brake levers. I haven't had them long enough to
know if they will reduce boot-sole wear but it seems
very likely. The Powerpegz peg design is unique and
provides excellent benefit and value.
