Weight Loss With The Latest California Diet!
If
you live in California your CRF250X and CRF450X come
nicely equipped with a full pound of emissions equipment.
This pound of equipment is one of the most important
pounds that make up this great off-road racer. Why,
you ask? Because this "smog pump" is what
makes it possible for these bikes to receive the coveted
California Green Sticker. Without a green sticker,
legal riding areas would be limited to certain months
of the year or not at all. With a green sticker you
can ride in most legal areas year round.
Note:
Removing emissions equipment is for close course purposes
or where there are no green sticker requirements.
The
Applied Racing Emission Block Off Kit has thee components.
A vent plug, smog pump block off cap, and a brass
bolt. Installation is very simple. First remove the
smog pump and hoses. Once they are removed, you can
install the kit. Here's a more detailed installation
procedure.

The Podium |
- Well
designed and manufactured
- Eliminates
nearly a pound of emissions equipment
- Prevents
hot oil-rich air from entering the carburetor
- Reduces
clutter around the right side of the frame
and motor as well as the air box
- Instructions
are excellent, installation is quick and easy
|
Conclusion
Many
are probably wondering if removing the smog pump will
have an added benefit of increasing performance of
the motor. Unfortunately, we did not detect any increase
in performance in our CRF450X after removal. It does
however reduce clutter around the right side of the
motor as well as around the air box.
Lastly,
as I was completing the install, Stevie Ray Vaughn's
"Tax Man" was playing on the shop stereo.
I couldn't help but wish Applied Racing made something
to eliminate taxes too.

The Pits |
- It
doesn't appear the smog pump hurts performance
so removing it doesn't add performance
- While
it eliminates the smog equipment it does nothing
to eliminate taxes
