Time
To Vent!
We
all need to vent at some point. This is even more
true with your motor. In fact, it's always venting.
Why? Well, frankly because it's cranky. Hence, the
invention of the crankcase vent system.
The
stock crankcase vent system vents to the airbox and
drains to a plugged hose down on the left case. The
problem with this system is it has the negative effect
of venting hot oil-rich air into your carb. This is
bad at multiple levels such as performance and carb
maintenance. Lastly, this stock system creates unecessary
hose clutter by routing the vent hose to the air box.

Applied
Racing has a solution to this cranky ventilation problem,
the Applied Racing Crankcase Vent Kit. Essentially,
it's a pretty simple kit consisting of three pieces:
1) Billet Breather Vent, 2) Billet Plug, and 3) Billet
Hose Connector. Did I mention these are all my from
billet aluminum?

Installation
How
easy is it to install? Very easy once you get to the
parts. While you might be able to do this without
removing the seat or tank, I had them off for another
project and took advantage of this to install the
vent kit. Frankly, I prefer taking the time to open
things up like this as oppose to trying to work a
way through the tangled mess of cables, hoses, and
tight work spaces. Once you have access to the vent
hoses it's a matter of following Applied Racing's
excellent instructions.
- You'll
need to locate the tee connector and remove it and
replace it with the suppled billet connector. This
will free up one end of the vent tube.
- Next,
remove the vent tube at the air box. Once removed
you'll see a light gray connector in the air box.
Remove this connector and replace it with the supplied
billet plug. You've effectively removed the vent
hose.
- Now
you need to replace the vent drain plug with the
supplied billet breather vent. This will allow for
proper ventilation of the crankcase and valvetrain
while filtering any contaminates. Once you've installed
this plug you're done. Here's a picture of all the
stock items removed

Conclusion
This
is a great kit that provides the proper ventilation
and removes the risk of oil residue and hot engine
air from entering your carb. In additon, it eliminates
some much needed hose clutter. The instructions were
spot on and very detailed. The installation was simple
and didn't take more than 10 minutes. The red annodized
parts look pretty trick as well.
