Here's your chance to influence the bike selection. So, what will it be?

I voted for the 250x., but is there a budget? If there is maybe the 230 would be cool to biuld, or even a 50!

Do the 450X.
I think it best represents this boards members.
It’s what I’d build if I had the funds!

I like the 250X I love the 250X but to represent our site the 450X is the majority leader so I vote 450X.

I probably should have stated that this is NOT a "virtual" bike...this bike WILL be build and delivered to Dirt Rider to be tested, reviewed, and photographed. It will appear in Dirt Rider after they have two weeks of testing and a chance to write up the review.

no budget...we'll just build it whatever it is.

Ken

i propose an Athena 490X, pull out all the stops, and let the HP fly.

ok...this is where we have to be a bit more structured. first, we need to select a bike model and then we can get into the specifics of what to do to the bike.

this thread is all about bike selection...which bike and why.

keep the votes coming.

I think the 450X should be the bike. They rated it #2 in the mag, so I thin we shold focus on making changes the reflect the negatives they had in the article. I don't have the article in front of me, but as I recall, the complained about the Power. Easy to fix, they liked the handling, no change there. Suspension was an issue I recall for woops. Fix that, etc.

I'll pull the article later and add.

I vote for a trail bike versus MX just based on what I think may be a more universal appeal and wider practical application (or duplication) of the subsequent mods if deemed succesful. So I am for an X versus R. I think the 180 lb. rider weight starts to lean more toward a 450 than a 250, so I vote for a 450X.

I'm also with Megamac for the reasons he listed to go with the 450X. The negatives that Dirt Rider (and Dirt Bike for that matter) listed are pretty easy to overcome (in fact convert into positive aspects) with the 450X.

Finally, I applaud Dirt Rider for coming up with the idea of doing this real world test of the results of tapping into the invaluable knowledge that can accumulate for a particular bike in a user forum like this.

My Vote 450X
why it is the latest design technology from Honda and in standard form is very under rated. Most magazines have had a lot of negatives about certain aspects of the bike even though they voted in favour of the bike.

So imagine the faces of the magazine with the bike set up the way it should be Very Happy

With the correct mods this would have to be one of the easiest bikes to ride .

The list of mods is endless and not the right forum i guess once you select the bike that will be stage two.

Oh and i suggest you make a bling forum just for doug.

This is a cool project. Having both the 450x and 250x, I vote for the 450x. Bet those CRFsOnly.com graphics will be here pronto now that we have a deadline. Looks like all the required add-ons have been identified in these previous posts. Slap those graphics on Doug's bike and we are done.
