Hi Guys,

Im replacing my head gasket as i didnt torque it down enough when i replaced the piston. However last time i removed the coolant i managed to leave loads in the cylinder jackets and it all went into my engine.

Id rather it didnt happen again as its a ball ache and i look like a :). From my manual it just says remove lower bolt on water pump, let it drain. This is what i did previously. Do you need to lean the bike over, squeeze the hoses etc?

Also if there is anything else i need to know when replacing the head gasket please shout up.

Thanks

Dan

Removing the radiator cap and doing the slow side-to-side lean gets most of it. You may still have a little trapped, it really comes down to air pockets.

Cheers. Does squeezing the hoses help or not? Is it just a case of doing the best you can to get as much as you can out?

I personally don't see that helping much, but its worth a shot a guess Confused

Water flows through the pump, and the pump separates the pressure. If you take the hose off the pump then you will only be draining the one side. Similarly, squeezing the hose on that side will just push water in the path of least resistance, which is the radiator.

You’re really trying to get the water out of the motor, which is being inhibited by the pump. If you drain everything from the radiators, pull the hoses, and then leave the drain bolt open an rock the bike every few minutes you should get a good result

Short of pulling the pump, I am not sure what else would help. Maybe shop vac the coolant from the hose Laughing

I used the compressor and lightly hit it with air to push all the remnants of coolant out of the system. Short controlled blasts at the cap port.

Brave! It does not take much air pressure to blow a pin hole at the tank joint in the stock radiators. I take it you did not try to seal off the air?

No - it is just flow air. Very little pressure. Gets all the little pockets of coolant out.
