More than likely the inner oil seal is failing. That is the seal in the case/side cover that keeps coolant out of the tranny. On the inner side of the impellor. Some great articles in the "How to" section here to guide you through the repair.

Check out the "how to" section. If you are reasonably handy with tools you should have not problem. There is always people here on CRF's very willing to help guide you thorough it.

It is really not too tough. Ken has everything you need to order. Water pump rebuild kit is what I believe it is called.

There is no way for a head gasket leaking to find its way into the transmission. A blown head gasket could get coolant to the engine oil and / or the engine oil get into the coolant but not the trans.

Ken will fix you up with the parts you need. Caution: when taking the seals out of the case. Do not just go at it with a drift & hammer - bad things happen....

Guess how I know that. Embarassed

I have a puller now. Shocked
