Has anyone successfully located and installed a petcock with reserve? If so from what bike/company and hopefully a part number would be stellar...

I was just thinking about the same thing for the boy's 150r. It would be nice to have some warning that fuel is getting low...

it's a great idea but i've not seen one specifically designed for this tank.

if one doesn't exist, a clear tank would allow a visual view of fuel remaining.

True, a clear tank would be the ticket.

So a petcock with a reserve just has a longer stem that sticks up into the tank and 2 different points at which it opens to let the gas flow to the carb?

Is that right?

yes and not. here's the microfiche of the 450X tank:



as you can see it's a bit more complicated and not just in the fuel line at the tank like the 150R is. not to say it couldn't be done but i've not done and don't know what obstacles you would have to overcome.
