[CRF230RiPPER]

I'm looking to change the handlebars on my 230 and I want it to feel more like a racer when I sit on it, in other words I want the handle bars a little higher to make it easier to stand on when im doing track stuff. Can someone tell me the best way to accomplish this? Triple clamp maybe?...if so what bars have people had success with in this regard.

Also what are peoples feelings about the BBR rev box thats available for the crf230, has anyone installed this ? does it make much of a difference? is it bad for the bike in the long run?


Just weighing some of my options for my next upgrade.

I'm also considering doing some sprocket changes but have heard mixed reviews about whats best.

On the handle bars, I used the Pro-Taper big bar adapters (changes it from 7/8" to 1-1/8" bar size) and the Pro-Taper Contour Bars with a CR High Bend. This added about 1-1/2" - 2" over stock bar height. Makes it more comfy standing up going down the trail.
Haven't done the other upgrades as of yet, sorry.

The rev box i thought was worth the 60 bucks, it was a noticable difference and also if i were you if you havent yet do and exhaust modifications and air filter this also makes a big difference

I have been thru four different drive ratios. I don’t like the stock ratio or the 428 conversion. I did like the 14/50 set up but I wanted a little more stretch thru the gears. I am currently using a 15/51 configuration. I have only ridden it twice but so far so good.
Sidewinder is the only manufacturer I could find who makes a 15 tooth primary and they are pricey. 12 and 14 tooth primaries are cheep and easy to install so I recommend you start there then change rear sprockets to fine tune to the ratio that suits you and your ridding style. This ratio chart will help.

I am using the BBR rev box. It will not give you more power. Its function is “to eliminate the 9800 rpm rev limiter and provide a hotter advance curve”. I don’t want to over rev my bike but the hotter advance curve does work for me. If I had to live without it, I could.

It's on my list of things to do yet. I am planning it for this off season.

NO replacement of cables. They all fit good on the new bars. Take your number plate off while doing this, the cables will find new homes when the bars are moved. Put the number plate back on once your done and check turning radius of bars to see if there are any snags.
Then test ride.

Hey jdkd410 can you tell me the exact products you used for the change. like maybe a link to them. Ilooked at the pro taper website and I think I found the bars ,but not sure what adapter you used.

The more I think about taking on this project, the more I wonder if an ape with a crescent wrench can do it.

Do you also need to pickup a new throttle tube, and what about handguards, do i need new ones, or new ends for the new bars? Sorry for all the questions, just wondering if it's all pretty easy stuff.

No, that's the nice part about the Protapers, big on the bar mounts to the top triple, but only 7/8" on the control mounts. I had to use the Protaper adapters for my hand guards. So you'll have to check with the maker of your handguards to see if they make them.

I use the Acerbis Minicross Rally Handguard, (just for the spikey bushes here in the desert), with the Protaper mount adapters. If you have this brand, here is the link to their site:

Would love to see how your bike looks also, any pics of your bike with the new controls on ? I'm really thinking that this is the direction i'm gonna go in for the next upgrade. Seems cheap enough to do without gettin into too much trouble from wifey. haha
