You will need to get new springs for your 250 lb butt.

As far as mechanics skills are concerned, you should have no issues. If you can rebuild hydraulic pumps and pressure compensators, bikes are a piece of cake...

    Stock Spring Rates:
    Fork: 0.46 kg/mm
    Shock: 5.3 kg/mm

    Recommended Spring Rates:
    Fork: 0.51 kg/mm
    Shock: 5.9 kg/mm

You can get them right here at CRF's Only.

$ 95 for the front springs, $ 105 for the rear.

And yes only the 05 R can will fit the X model.

Yup. Either the Clymer or the factory Honda will walk you through it. If you have any issues just post them up and someone will be right along to help.

I have not been able to attain the proper race sag after setting up the static sag. I believe I need a stiffer rear spring, but I am not sure what spring rate to order? Bike rides rigid, front and rear! Any hepl will be appreciated. I live in So. Cal. I can either replace the spring myself, or take bike to shop for complete suspension work up? Pros and cons? Thanks!

Your bike rides rigidly because your springs are way too soft.

I know that's hard to understand, but here's why. The damping rates are progressive, which means the farther into the stroke, the harder the damping becomes. The top of the stroke should be comfortable and it should get more rigid as you go down. Since your springs are too soft for your weight, you are not at the top of the stroke under normal riding. You are already into a more harsh section of the valving.

The rear spring should be either a 5.7kg/mm or a 5.9kg/mm. Your weight has you in the middle. You can use either, the lighter spring will need more preload, the heavier, less.

The front forks will need .49kg/mm springs.

Having the suspension revalved for the type of riding you do will make a world of difference and you will fall in love with your bike all over again.
