As some of you locals may know, Rowher Flats is scheduled to open again on Nov 7 (according to a few sites / Forest Service).
I normally don't stage out of Rowher myself, but rather Drinkwater staging area and start up a nice hill climb into the mountains.
From there, we venture into Rowher Flats and play around there a bit and then head up into the Elizabeth Lake area for lunch at the old Inn and to gas up if needed.
On the way back, there is a ton of National Forest trails / roads to explore too and single track (the Pacific Trail is not one of them ).
I talked to Dan and Pete and they are interested, if anyone else wants to join up, feel free to do so. The actual date to go hasn't been set until we determine the best day to go for everyone.
This of course all depends upon them opening it as they said they would |

Wow news travels fast.I just found out today that it is in fact scheduled to open november 7th.My supervisor at work is president of High Desert 4x4 offroad club(they have adopted alot of trails and have been working very hard to try and get it open) and was telling me today that they were out this past weekend running the trails with the park rangers and got the thumbs up.One of the big hold-ups was when they were checking things out after the fires they ran acrossed some old indian stoves that dated back like A thousand years or something like that, well they finally finished what they needed to do.Also the Shamrocks MC from D-37 are going to be A big part of the grand opening. They also did alot of trail grading and it will be 100% open all trails.Theres also plans to build A new kids area and the old kids area will be A 4x4 testing area with loggs, ramps, and other opsticals.I will keep trying to find out details and let everyone know.

| That is good news. I didn't realize though it was going to be a big fan fare day. Either way, I am looking forward to riding the area again. |

I'm hoping to be riding it every week once it opens. I will not do it the first week because of all the DH that will be coming out. If you want to hook up for a Sunday morning ride after a few weeks of it being open PM me.
From what I heard DWF side is not going to be openedat the same time. I will have to check on that. _________________ Old-Man

Just got off the phone with the local ranger station in Saugus.
I was told Rowher Flats is still planning on opening up on Nov 8th (Sun), along with the areas surrounding it that has been closed due to the Buckhorn Fire of 2008. This will give us access to the Lake Elizabeth area to eat and fuel up and explore too.
That includes the Spunky Cyn areas and other areas north of Rowher Flats.
Drinkwater Staging Area is another story though. Seems like there is something wrong with the dirt road going up the hill and it will not re-open until there is money available to fix it and some studies completed (in other words, a long wait).
So, it looks like we need to stage out of Rowher Flats if we want to go. Also, I believe an Adventure Pass will be needed to.
Weather wise, it is suppose to be in the low 70's with possible sprinkles on Friday.
How about meeting b/t 0730-0800 at Rowher Flats (actual spot to be determined) and heading out for the ride by 0830. It will be an all day ride, so plan on returning b/t 1600-1800hrs.
Have money for lunch / gas cause we will stop at the Rock Inn on Lake Elizabeth for lunch and to fuel up if needed. |

I just pulled a wood permit if the weathers good Ill be cutting wood off spunky on Friday hopefully. I think I would let that place settle down before I rode out of Rowher, like until 2010. _________________
