WI'm at is the Tensioner stopper tool

    by detox » Sat Jan 05, 2008 1:01 pm

Trying to do my first valve adjust on my 06 450x and the owners manual says I need the Tensioner Stopper 070mg-0010100. The thing costs $73 from the local dealer. Is it needed? Some sort of work around?

Are there any other hang ups I'm likely to run into?

    Thanks

No, use a small screwdriver. Just stick it in and turn to the right.

The way i do it is take it off. Remove the small screw where the tool (screwdriver) goes in, then remove the two bolts that hold it to the cyclinder.

When replacing, just put the screwdriver in and turn to the right. Now hold screwdriver and bolt it back to the cyclinder, then just let go of the screwdriver. It will turn back to the left by itself.

By taking it off you won`t have to worry about it tighting the chain while you have the cam gear off.

Other things to remember is to cover the cam tower with a rag, you don`t want to drop a shim down there. And make sure your cam lobes are not facing down against the buckets when you tighten the cam assembly back down, this will force the valves into the piston. Just point them up to be safe.

Thanks, that helps. Now I need to figure out the correct shim size. I think I know how.
