Seal Kit for Fuel Selection Petcock? 2006 CRF250X

    by Codeman00 » Sun Mar 06, 2016 2:08 pm

Does Honda sell a seal kit for the fuel petcock for the 2006 CRF250X. Part number of the entire petcock is 16950-KSC-003.

If the seal kit isn't available...If anyone has an extra lying around the works, that they want to part with, let me know.

Yea , you are pretty much stuck buying a new fuel valve , i know K&L makes the seal part (the round rubber piece with 4 holes) , but i have been unable to find out what part number it is , and as far as i know you have to buy a box of them , the box is over $100 , so unless you have a dozen fuel valves lying around that need new seals (and they are all Honda CRF's because other bikes are different size), its not worth it , and your better off just buying a new one

Sometimes you can luck out and get by for a while by flipping it over , sometimes that will get you by for a bit , but it will eventually start leaking again , and you will still have to get a new valve , its strange because Honda sells the seals by themselves for other model/year bikes , but not for the CRF's

Thanks guys...I don't like the news...but I do appreciate the response.

I took the 4-hole gasket out and it had some impressive warped high points on it which is what was causing the leak. Since I had nothing else to lose, I tried sanding the high points down and trying it flipped over. I made a mistake by not lubing it before twisting the valve. Since the gasket was so dry and (worn out), it the twisting motion chipped a nick out of front in between the holes and now it doesn't seal at all. So yeah, I guess I'm going to have to buy a new one unfortunately. $25 for such a little part just to sell the bike.

    Thanks all.

One more question...can I use the 2008 petcock instead of the 2006?

    Part numbers
    16950-KSC-003 (2006)
    16950-KSC-A21 (2008+)

Can I use the latter for my 2006? I've upgraded everything to R status anyway.

As long as it bolts up the same and has the same amount of lines , as the X has 2 incoming and one out (1 for reserve , one for On) , the R only has 1 line in , and 1 out (no reserve) , and you would need to swap the outlet on the tank as well , since the X has 2 lines coming out of the tank , other then that ... yes

If you swap to the R system , then DO change the outlet on the tank along with the fuel valve , you do not want to plug off a line , as it has a chance of leaking and you do not want gas dripping on a hot engine/exhaust , .... bad things can happen .... , if the valve is off another X , then no worries as you will be using both lines anyway ...

Both have 2 lines incoming since they are both 250X petcocks. I have no idea what changed from the 2006-2007 model to the 2008+. It can't be much that's significant. The single mounting hole is still at the top. But one has to wonder why they still have 2 part numbers for 250X petcocks.

Sometimes when they change things like tanks , and such , they do minor changes , like a slightly different angle of the line or something to work with the tank size change , just like shrouds are different on 450X's from 08 on , they still fit the older ones , but are just slightly different because the tank was changed from 2.3 gal to 1.9 , so accompanying parts are "updated" to accommodate the change , even though the update may just be a superseded part number to go with the change , without actually changing the part itself

    OEM's are weird that way

But either way , you should be good , the other valve should work fine

    That makes sense.

The 2008+ was $4 cheaper so I went with it. Thank you all for your help! Glad to see this place is still a wealth of information.
