    Stock head shim sizes

    by woodchuck » Tue Sep 15, 2015 9:18 pm

Just curious what a factory head's shim size will typically be on an 06' CRF250X? Mine had 265's on the exhaust side and 190's on the intake side. I guess I'm just trying to figure out how worn the valve seats are... I ended up being .003" out on the exhaust side, and .002" on the intake.

I'm asking as this is a used bike that I just purchased...

There is no "factory shim size" , they vary from bike to bike and from left to right side , due to the manufacturing process of the heads and components

Your concern is when you get near or end up at the 1.20 shim size , as that is the smallest shim made , and means you need a valve job

Ah cool. Thanks Jim. You managed to correct the question and provide the answer! I was just trying to get an understanding of the wear level on my head, without having to remove it.
