    Suspension set up CRF250R

    by carlitoevans » Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:21 am

    Hi all

I have a brand new 2011 CRF250R and am still very much a beginner. I'm 5ft 5 and 120lbs. Was pretty scared of how big the bike is but now getting used to it. Put a lowering link on it before its first ride and pre-load is wound out for maximum lowering mainly so I can just get on it as don't touch the ground otherwise!

Rebound and compression front and rear are on the softest setting, does anyone know any better settings for someone my weight?

Your front brake is responsible for 70 to 75% of a bikes braking power. As a humble trail rider I prefer a hard setting on the front end so when I break hard the front end does not quickly compress, robbing me of my balance (forcing me forward). My tailbone prefers a softer setting back there.

You can loosen the fork pinch bolts on the trees, slide the forks up, and drop your front end without changing fork performance.

Your best bet is to have your suspension resprung, and revalved for your weight and the terrain your riding. I would also have it internally lowered. Honestly the right springs will be the most expensive part however it will also make the bike a lot more friendly for someone your size to ride.

The correct rate and length springs are the best thing anybody can do for their bike. Yes it can be costly but find a good suspension person in you area and they are worth more than a power increase.

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas
