    Broken ribs

by matt watt » Sun Jan 23, 2011 4:46 pm

I took a header last october and cracked a couple of ribs. Was riding again in a couple of weaks with some pain. It still hurts like hell when I sneeze. I have been to the doc. He gave me two jars of pills for pian and inflammation. I have tried the chiropracor and massage therapist.(before I knew the ribs were broken.) Anybody got any ideas to heal quicker? Physiotherapy? some sort of magic elixir?

I guess I also wanted to know how long it took other people to heel completely from broken ribs. I'm only 36 years old so I don't expect to bounce back like I did when I was a kid.

i've broken ribs and damaged cartilage. the broken ribs heal faster than the cartilage damage. in fact, i'd rather break a rib then damage the cartilage in the rib cage. so, depends on what all you damaged and how you've done in laying off things that move ribs around pretty good.

i broke one in october on the bike, rock caught me in between the chest protector. it will hurt pretty good for a few weeks then calm down. not much you can do but rest it and take pain meds. i guess they dont even want ribs taped anymore. mine feels much better but still has some pressure and a little pain when i lay on it in just the right spot.

I broke 3 ribs and fractured a few more in Jan 2011 with two of the ribs healing with being 2-3mm out of alinement and even now if my wife rest her arm on that side it gets realy sore, we only found out 3 months ago that the ribs healed that way.
They would have to be the worst thing to break. all the best with your recovery, i also spent 7 days in hospital from that crash and 6 months of work. :(

Only had broke ribs here and I will tell you it takes a long time for them to heal. Constant movment when you cough sneez breath, slows the healing. Mine were sore and tender for about 5 months.

yeah, definitely no fun. never really how much your ribs move until one or more is broken. then it appears to be impossible not to move them.
