gud day sirs im from the philippines and a newbie here in the forum. i just bought a honda crf250l yesterday, what i noticed upon riding it is the high engine temperature that reached up to the gas tank and on the seats. is it because its new or the high temperature is just normal?

Welcome to the site !! \:D/
Does your L have a temp gauge ??? , if so what is the common temperature reading while riding ??

Are you in stop and go traffic all the time or when its acting hot ??

If its stop and go traffic , are you stopped when you feel the heat ?? , is this only when you feel the heat ??

Are you just feeling the heat reflecting off the engine ?? , or is the cooling system actually overheating and boiling over ??

If your going to be in traffic constantly , Honda has a Cooling Fan Option that you can purchase for your bike , your dealer should be able to get it for you , or you can purchase one here on this site , the fan will help with any situations like your experiencing while in slow traffic situations , it may not prevent it from happening again , but it will lessen the issue and keep the engine cooler either way

I can't say that its "normal" for it to get or feel hot unless more detail of the riding conditions , and when specifically it is getting hot is explained , but it sounds like a common traffic issue as a water cooled bike , needs airflow to cool , and sitting in traffic , there is no airflow , which is where the fan comes in

    Hope that helped some ;)

the bike has only this high coolant temperature indicator but no temperature gauge .
its my first ride on the bike yesterday and notice the heat after some kilometers and more when i stop on traffic.
i used to ride a honda xr125, the store mechanic says that the high temperature is normal for its 250cc engine .
it is equipped sir with a radiator fan .
i was thinking that it has to do with its being new and will eventually cool down a bit after sometime

If it has a fan then it is most likely as you suspect , its the "new" burning off , you should notice a difference within the next few rides then , keep a eye on anything out of the ordinary , and since its "new" , by next weekend it would be a good time to go over the bike , and check all the fasteners and related items , to make sure everything is tight and secure and safe , as things will loosen up after the first few rides ,if you have a manual , then it will give you all the specs ....good luck and let us know if anything else happens ....

Well Sir Jim looks like you have been knighted.
You probably feel more like Don Quixote after he was attacked by the windmill.

Sounds like his bike just has the normal burning off smells.

    Vincereyes,
You have checked the coolant level is correct?
Does your warning light come on at all?

Aussiecrf230 the coolant level was right when i check on it, too is the engine oil level. thats what the shop mechanic says that the high temp warning will light up if ever it becomes too hot, it never did come on though. with a beautiful bike like this crf i think i'll get used to the high temp in no time

That is about 42-43 miles per Imp Gallon so typical. Might improve with a bit of age. Of course taming the rider with a new bike always saves on fuel as well. Would expect 50MPG but how many Kilometres have you run up so far.

Hey Vincereyes is your heating problem fixed? The thing is I bought a CRF 250L yesterday. Was taking a test ride today and I could feel the engine heat on my leg. Is this normal for a new bike or should I check the engine oil and everything else? Please let me know..
