No stall when fuel screw all the way in

    by Timturtle » Sat Jan 20, 2018 10:05 pm

I have a 2013 crf450x that I'm having trouble tuning. I don't get a stumble when I turn the fuel screw all the way in I just get higher revs.
I've recently put a jd kit in with a 170 main, red needle 4th clip and a 48 pilot.
The air box is cut open and it came with a s3 slip on exhaust. I'm pretty much at sea level (Sydney australia)
Before the jd kit the bike was popping on decel but now it runs amazing with the fuel screw at 1.5 - 2 turns out.
Does anyone know why the fuel screw isn't getting a stumble?
    Thanks!

Hi Timturtle and welcome to the site.
Have you taken the fuel screw out and checked that no rubbish or damage?
What sort of rpm is your idle set at? Perhaps it is still drawing some fuel from the needle. It can happen when the idle jet is too large but 48 doesn't seem too large.

    Idle 45

It starts,it runs,it gets to where all CRFs can get to without the valve or valve plate dramas

Hey thanks I've had the carb cleaned out twice and it is really clean. The fuel screw is a brand new r+d flex screw so no damage there.
The only other thing I can think of is the hot start was jammed open when I bought the bike so I've fixed it but kept the same brass plunger, could that be letting air in?
The bike only has 900kms on it so it's in pretty good condition.
I've checked the valves and they are also spot on.
If I put a smaller pilot jet in I get the popping on decal back.

The hot start can be your problem. If it is not properly closed it would actually lean the mixture though by allowing more air in. Kind of where I was going with what idle speed you have. The nut can be stripped out sometimes requiring a new one.
