    2013 CRF250L Cylinder Head Removal

    by rguess61 » Sat May 15, 2021 1:01 am

Hello, just wondering if the cylinder head can be removed with the engine in frame? And if so, are there any special considerations/problems I should look out for.

    Thanks

Welcome to the site !! \:D/

Sorry for the late reply 8-[ ..... To answer your question , no you do not have to remove the engine from the frame to do a head or even cylinder and/or piston replacement ..... however , I would not recommend doing this without a Factory Honda Service Manual , so you don't miss anything when disassembling or assembling the engine components .... the last thing you want to find out after you got it all back together is that you missed something .... so I would not attempt it without that manual , period .... With the manual , it should be a fairly straightforward job and should not take more than a few hours from start to finish (2-5 hours) , basically , you should be able to do this , and have the bike running the same day without complications ... , but don't rush it , being thorough is better than being fast ...

Thank you very much. I do have the factory shop manual and it called for removing the engine, that's why I was asking. Should have the parts next week, so hopefully next weekend I'll tear it apart...figuratively speaking, lol.

The only reason would be if the head would not clear the studs while in the frame , but that should not be a issue from what I have seen (I have not done one personally , but I have watched videos of them doing that bike and did a head/cyl/piston in the frame) , so I know it can be done ...
