    How Critical is This Bushing?

    by mossman77 » Mon Feb 06, 2017 8:14 am

I'm replacing the seals on a friends 2008 CRF250X and he supplied the parts, which only consisted of the seals, guide bushings, and slide bushings for the outer tubes. All of the other bushings appear to be in good shape (gray coating still in tact), except for the slide bushing located on the inner cartridge (#10 in parts fiche). The outside surface looks fine, but there is a band on center of the inside surface where it has worn through to the metal. How critical is this bushing and should it absolutely be replaced?

Unless the graphite coating is gone , then it should be fine , its not critical like the main bushings are

About half of the graphite coating on the inside of the bushing is gone. There is a ring around the center where it has worn down to the metal.

Do you see any wear signs on the tube ?? (look down inside the tube with a flashlight and look for wear spots that are thru the anodizing , that would indicate the bushing causing it)

If the bushing is worn where it rubs on the Spring Seat itself , then its not a big issue , if its the part that rubs on the tube , then it should be replaced

If so , then replace the bushing , since you already have it apart , might as well if its that worn , and they are relatively inexpensive ...

The part that is worn is the inside that rests on the spring seat. I read somewhere that if this is worn, then the teflon coating (whatever it is) could be worn unevenly as well, of the gap between the bushing and tube would be greater than it is supposed to be. Regardless, I went ahead and replaced them.

Like i said , since its already apart , might as well just replace it if its that worn , they are "wear" parts so if its a concern , your better off with new ones and should be good till the next major tear down
