Tool Box
Last spring(2011) I decided I needed to carry a few tools on my bike. Since I'm so old I often put my jersey on and then realize i forgot my elbow pads,etc. I thought it best to put them on the bike rather than carry a fanny pack or such that i might forget. We have access to some tool packs at dealer cost but the models others have tried (all some sort of nylon, miracle, ballistic cloth) get dirty, fall off and generally look terrible. After a little research I looked at the "Otter Box' line of waterproof boxes for cameras, cell phones and so on. What a FIND! These are indestructible, come in a huge array of sizes and colors, can be found at lots of stores at VERY cheap prices. I bought one of smallest rectangular boxes they make. A 2000 series with dimensions of:Exterior Dimensions: 6.855" x 4.571" x 1.829";Interior Dimensions: 5.757" x 3.140" x 0.979"
This seems very small but i can still get a lot of tools in it using 1/4 drive sockets etc. I chose this because I have LED turn signals mounted on my rear fender of my CRF250X. I needed it to fit between them so I wanted narrow. Just mount with a couple of bolts and you're done. At first I ran a safety inner tube rubber band around the edge to cover the latches but these are made way strong and the double latches are not coming undone. If you should hit one with your boot one latch is still enough to keep the box closed (I have never had one come open).
Also check out the 3000 series for more space: Exterior Dimensions: 8.813" x 5.175" x 2.008";
Interior Dimensions: 7.639" x 3.723" x 1.229"
All boxes have a built in thin, but dense foam liner that I removed to gain more interior space (maybe .125 to .250 in)
