How does the new acerbis skid plate measure up

I have an 08 450X and the majority of my riding is in the rock/rut/root infested hills of NW washington. Skid plates are pretty important, especially with all that motor sticking out the side of the front frame rails and stock plastic "mud deflectors" that dont do much for protection when there are rocks sticking out of the side of the trail right at oil filter/case cracking level. I was originally looking at a works conection skid plate due to the fact that it looks like it offers the most protection, but the acerbis one has a little bit better price tag. Any one had any experince with the material that is used in that plate, I'm assuming that it's some sort of hard plastic and how it measures up to the works connection plate for protection, durability/longevity from multiple impacts on sharp rocks.

I just bought the Acerbis for my 2007 CRF250X and it fits well with easy installation. However on the 250 it offers less coverage on the right hand side of the motor than does the stock motor guards. The entire waterpump housing is exposed so I'm not sure it is going to be a permanent fixture to the bike.
