    Ignition Coil Testing

    by jrgcbg49 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 2:14 pm

I purchased another crf100 and it bogs and feels like the ignition cuts out when hot and you put it under load.Happens intermittently and after engine is hot.
So i went about testing the coil. Primary resistance was 0.6 ohms spec is 0.1-0.3 @ 68f. it's 63 degrees here today. not sure if that plays into it.I also didn't see any plus or minus to those specs. Checking secondary resistance with plug cap on and got OL open circuit? I tested the secondary with the boot unscrewed and it was 3195 ohms spec is 2.7-3.5k.
SO the real question is I put the test lead on the spark plug end and the other lead on the screw end of the boot and it comes up as OL open circuit? I took it to my neighbor who is an electrician and he tested the boot with his multimeter and got the same result? Should not there be almost no restance between those two points? I tested the boot from my other crf that is running fine and get the same reading?? Am I missing something?
