2006 CRF450x (AC)
I broke the threaded end off the damper rod assembly where the center bolt threads on. The Honda service manual calls for 22 N.m, which to be honest sounds like a misprint / mis-spec because it instantly snapped off before I even hit 15 N.m. I've heard from suspension people that this is a common occurrence. Major bummer.
I found the part number on Rocky Mountain's parts fiche. For the 2006 the part number is 51430-MEY-003.
Here's my second screw up: the damper rod assembly is not very available on the internet. I spent a few separate days Googling part numbers, somewhere in there I used the 2008 - 2017 part number (I have a 2008 in addition to my 2006 and I think I just spaced which bike I was buying for). The part number for the 2008 is 51430-MEY-A21.
So I accidentally found the 2008 part 51430-MEY-A21 and shipped it from PartsFish.com. On the bench, they do not visually inspect as being the same part, which should not come as a surprise since they are different part numbers! Check out the photos. The one with the green collar is the 2006 51430-MEY-003 from the non-broken fork tube. The one with the blue collar is the replacement 2008 part 51430-MEY-A21 I purchased.
These two damper assemblies are the same in dimensions, length, thread pitches, and the inner chamber with the valve shims fit exactly the same. They *appear* to be the same functionally, but the blue and green collars as well as the sliding collars above them are clearly different.
My question: does anyone know if these two parts are FUNCTIONALLY the same? Or do I need to return the 2008 part 51430-MEY-A21 and continue searching for the 2006 part 51430-MEY-003? For what it's worth, in doing more searching, the the 2006 part 51430-MEY-003 is MUCH harder to find than the already hard to find 2008 part 51430-MEY-A21, and for simplicity sake I would love to just install the 2008 part 51430-MEY-A21.
